Why scrap wood is harder to get rid of than it looks
Wood is bulky before it is heavy. A dismantled shed or a run of fence panels fills a car boot in one trip and you have got six trips worth stacked by the fence. Council bulky collections in Stockport and Manchester often will not take construction timber at all, or cap you at a couple of items per booking, which barely touches a renovation clear-out.
The tip is no easier. Vans need a permit at most Greater Manchester recycling centres, sheet material is restricted at some sites, and anything that looks like trade waste gets turned away. A Saturday at the tip with a borrowed trailer is how a lot of these piles end up sitting in gardens for another year.

Sheds, decking and fence runs dismantled for you
A lot of scrap wood jobs are not really removal jobs, they are dismantling jobs first. A rotten shed in a Hazel Grove back garden or twenty metres of blown-down fencing in Reddish needs taking apart before it needs taking away, and that is the bit most people do not have the tools or the afternoon for.
We do both. Tell us when you send the photos that it needs dismantling and we bring the kit to do it. Panels come down, posts come out where they can, and everything goes straight on the van. Concrete post bases and metal fittings are no problem either.
The garden is left tidy, not just empty. Offcuts and sawdust get swept up, and if a panel has taken a chunk of lawn with it we will stack it neatly rather than leaving it where it fell.
Scrap wood from renovations and building work
If you are mid-renovation, timber builds up fast. Floorboards from upstairs, the old kitchen carcasses, stud wall offcuts and the packaging everything arrived in all compete for the same corner of the drive. Leaving it until the end usually means it is wet, mixed with other waste and harder to shift.

Where the wood actually goes
Clean timber gets chipped and goes back into panel board manufacturing or biomass fuel. Painted and treated wood goes to facilities licensed to handle it, mostly into energy recovery. Genuinely unusable material is the small minority of a typical load.
That matters for two reasons. First, it keeps your cost sensible, because disposal by weight at the right facility is cheaper than mixed landfill. Second, it means your old fence is not part of a fly-tipped pile in a country lane with your address somewhere in it.
