Why business waste catches people out
The rules are different from home. The moment waste comes from a business it cannot go in a household bin, cannot go to a household recycling centre, and has to leave with a registered carrier. A lot of small businesses in Manchester find that out the hard way when a council notice arrives.
Standard trade contracts do not always fit either. Fixed bin sizes and long tie ins suit predictable waste, and most small firms are not predictable. A quiet fortnight then a delivery that fills the back room does not match a rate card.
We work the other way round. Tell us what you have got and how often it builds up, and we price it on that. Send photos on WhatsApp and we will come back with a fixed figure and a slot that fits your opening hours.
Regular collections without the tie in
Most of our business customers settle into a rhythm. A cafe in Chorlton on a Monday, a workshop in Openshaw fortnightly, an office in the city centre when the fit out debris builds up. We agree the day and turn up.
If your volumes jump, ring us and we will come in between rather than telling you to wait for your scheduled day. If it is quiet, skip a week. Nothing to renegotiate.
Access is usually the real detail. Shared service yards, loading bays with a time window, an alley behind a parade of shops. We plan around those rather than expecting the waste to be on the kerb.
The paperwork that keeps you compliant
Duty of care means you have to know where your waste went. In practice that means keeping waste transfer notes and being able to show the carrier was registered. Environmental health, insurers and landlords all ask for it eventually.
We are registered with the Environment Agency as an upper tier waste carrier, licence CBDU607219, which anyone can verify on the public register. Transfer notes are available for every collection on request.
For customers on a routine we keep the records consistent so you have a clean file rather than a drawer of receipts.
What actually gets recycled
Most trade loads are more recyclable than they look. Cardboard is baled, timber and pallets are chipped, metal goes for scrap, and furniture in decent condition is sometimes reused rather than broken up.
We separate at the depot end, which keeps the general waste portion small. That is better for your costs and better for the figures if you report on waste at all.
If you want a rough breakdown of what happened to your waste for a report or a tender, ask and we will tell you honestly rather than quoting a made up recycling rate.
